Custom Mokume-Gane Wedding/Commitment Rings
|
Mokume-Gane Mokume-gane is a labor-intensive ancient Japanese technique that results in swirling patterns of color created from various precious metal alloys. As a result of the process, patterns can be a matched mirror-image. This makes the material a meaningful and popular choice for rings meant to symbolize love and commitment between individuals (whether that commitment is legally recognized in your home state or not). |

Stop by the Annex to discuss your unique design:
- Materials - Combine one or more colors of gold (rose, yellow, white) together with sterling silver, or be tempted by the luxurious look and feel of tri-gold.
- Style - Choose a classic band, a lined band, or a popular two-tone strip.
- Pattern
- Although every mokume pattern is different, you can choose between
four basic pattern styles (loose cross, tight cross, loose topo, tight
topo).
- Finish - All styles can be high polish or satin finish, and many styles can be etched to highlight the mokume-gane layering.
Examples of rings by Anne Wolf:
![]() First of hopefully a popular design choice - a central core of mokume-gane, highlighted by solid-color outer bands. In this ring, the mokume-gane is sterling silver with 14k rose and white gold; the outer bands are 14k white gold. Pattern is 'crazy cross,' with stripe on the inside. Mokume-gane lightly etched on the outside, with a satin finish. |
![]() A rich, luxurious color combination - 18k yellow gold with pure palladium. Both rings are flat-top, satin finish for a contemporary look. Cross pattern. |
![]() Another new color combination - rose and white gold with sterling silver. Pattern: loose topo on left, loose cross on right. etched surface, satin finish. |
![]() This man's ring is 8mm wide, created from 18k yellow, 14k white and 14k rose gold. Pattern: tight twist |
![]() A new color combination - 18k yellow and 14k white gold with sterling silver. Man's ring is lined with sterling silver, a great cost-saving option - no one can tell when the ring is on, and it makes no practical difference in durability. |
![]() Sterling with white gold. Man's ring is flat-top, satin finish. Ladies ring is rounded top, shiny finish. Both are loose cross pattern. |
![]() White gold and sterling silver combine with sapphires and diamonds for an ethereal, elegant pair. Pattern: loose topo. Satin finish. |
![]() Rose and yellow gold swirl with sterling silver to create the bands here. The diamonds are tube-set in rose gold on the smaller ring, yellow gold in larger flat-top ring. Pattern on left = loose topo. On right = loose cross. Satin finish. |
![]() 14K Rose gold and sterling silver combine to form a unique, matched set. Pattern: loose cross. |
![]() This popular color choice uses 14K palladium white gold and sterling silver to create a subtle, cool-toned pattern. Looks excellent with diamonds, blue sapphires, or as a mokume strip on 14K white gold band, as shown in the examples above. Pattern: loose cross. ![]() This ring is created with an 18K yellow gold liner and edging. The mokume is 18K yellow gold, 14k rose gold, and sterling silver. The etched finish highlights the patterning. Pattern: tight topo. ![]() These rings show two popular mokume color choices - 18k yellow gold and 14k rose gold with sterling silver on the left, and 14k palladium white gold with sterling silver on the right. Both are lined with sterling silver. Either design can be etched to highlight the patterning. Pattern: loose topo. ![]() This couple treated themselves to new rings for their 10th anniversary. The .25 carat diamond was re-set from the lady's original traditional prong setting. No mokume here, just contemporary European design using 18k palladium white gold, and a little 18k yellow for the tube setting. Matched 18k yellow gold, 14K
rose gold, and sterling silver twist pattern mokume-gane, one ring with
a dome top and 8 flush-set diamonds, other ring with a contemporary
flat-top. Pattern: cross. |
![]() Classic Band - 18K Yellow, Rose and Palladium White gold. One ring with flat-top, one with a rounded top. Simple but elegant, these rings will last a lifetime. Pattern: cross. |
![]() 18K tri-gold mokume center stripe, on matching sterling bands. This design can be altered to use yellow, rose or white gold as the outer band, and any color combination of mokume for the center stripe. Many couples choose differently colored gold outer bands. Pattern: loose cross, halved. |
![]() These rings were made with material reclaimed from the customer's jewelry collection. The old jewelry was melted down and re-worked to create these matching rings of sterling silver and 14K gold, with two tube-set 2-point diamonds. |
